For the last few months, I have been in the market for an antique trunk to add to my collection of photography props. But after looking at several adds on Craig's list, I quickly realized that the price tag for a true antique trunk was quite a bit more than I was willing to spend. As much as I loved them, I just couldn't justify spending $200-500 on a prop that would probably only be used a handful of times(I tend to tire of my props pretty quickly). After a month of feeling very sorry that my visions of vintage babies/kids on antique trunks would never come to fruition, a good friend of mine sent me an add for an old military trunk in Richmond. The price tag on this one- $25! I quickly emailed the seller to snatch it and set up a pick up time. Exciting, right? Well, hold on folks- this story gets even better!
As I approached the estate sale, my eyes widened at the sight of 6 very cool antique bikes and tricycles sitting in the front yard. I was like a kid in a candy store! I anxiously asked the seller what that price tag was on the bikes, and he told me he would sell me 2 for $15- I am sure my jaw literally dropped. That is a steal! It was a real struggle to keep from jumping up and down. So I took the best trike and a very cool small bike with a basket on the front. Then after talking to the owner for a few minutes and mentioning that I was a photographer, he said he might have something else I might be interested in. He went to the back room and then brought back an old, 1960's Polaroid camera and told me he would throw it in there for free! Have you ever had the feeling that all the stars just aligned perfectly and something was completely meant to be? Well, that is exactly how I felt on this day. It was as if this estate sale was set up just for me- it was kind of strange. And I almost felt criminal leaving with so much stuff (which would've been more had I been able to fit it!) for just 35 dollars. Now just imagine the look on my husbands face when he saw the back of my van FULL of old, rusty, dirty things that we do not have room for. Poor guy- the things he puts up with from me!
Anyways, after that saga (which was probably pretty lame to anyone but myself!), lets move on to the sneak peek! This little guy was the perfect model for my new props! And I know I seem to say this every time, but I think this first image is one of my new favorites. His outfit, his hair, the shed, and the trike all make for the perfect vintage image. I had so much fun with this family- little Mr. F was so cooperative for me and I had so much fun playing with him and watching him feed his stuffed doggy grass (and then cover the dog in grass). I can't wait to show you the rest!
